3-vehicle crash on Ohio interstate leaves 2 dead

A Nov. 6 crash on Interstate 271 involving multiple vehicles left two people dead, authorities stated. The accident reportedly occurred in the southbound lanes of the interstate around 5 p.m. in Richfield.

According to police, a 41-year-old man driving a pickup truck rear-ended an SUV. The force of the collision sent the pickup truck careening into the northbound lanes of the interstate, where it collided head-on with a second SUV, officials said. The 44-year-old female driver of the second SUV was killed in the accident, having suffered fatal injuries. Officials at the scene pronounced her dead. The 41-year-old driver of the pickup truck also lost his life in the wreck. The man was flown by LifeFlight to a hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries, authorities reported.

Furthermore, two occupants of the first SUV were injured. Emergency personnel transported them to an area hospital for treatment. Purportedly, police are attributing the multi-car crash to speeding and distracted driving. Officials shut down a significant stretch of the highway while they investigated the accident scene.

As this case appears to demonstrate, distracted driving can lead to serious car accidents that result in injuries and death, especially when the accidents transpire at highway speeds. The parties at fault for such accidents may face more than just criminal consequences. In truth, they may also be held liable for the incident in civil court. For, accident victims may choose to file a lawsuit against them, citing negligence.

Lawsuits stemming from a car wreck may seek substantial money in damages and prove to be highly adversarial. Thus, many accident victims seek out the representation and counsel of an attorney before moving forward with a claim.
