Crash sends 2 people to an Ohio hospital

On Nov. 13, a collision between a U.S. postal truck and a car on the Lofton Henderson Memorial Bridge in Lorain sent two people to the hospital. According to the Lorain Police Department, the crash occurred around 4:53 p.m.

The postal truck driver, a 24-year-old Lorain man, was traveling north on the bridge. He reportedly lost control of the truck, sliding on ice into the southbound lane, where he struck an oncoming Buick Riviera driven by a 31-year-old woman.

Authorities reported the truck driver received a contusion to his head and a broken wrist in the accident. He was transported by LifeCare to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland for treatment. The woman, who reportedly had to be extricated from her vehicle, was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. Officials classified her injuries as moderate. Following the accident, the bridge was closed while authorities investigated the accident. According to law enforcement officials, the road conditions were icy and partly covered in snow at the time of the accident, and alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the collision.

When people are injured in a car accident due to the faulty driving of another party, they might be eligible to seek compensation for their damages by filing a personal injury lawsuit against the negligent driver. In the event that it can be proven that poorly maintained roadways contributed to the collision, injured victims may also name the responsible governmental body as a defendant in the suit. If such a claim were to prevail, the injured parties may receive a substantial award compensating them for medical care expenses, lost wages and other pecuniary losses related to the accident.
