Pickup truck slams into bus, pedestrian killed

According to witnesses, a pickup truck ran a red light near the Ohio Statehouse on Dec. 12, slamming into a school bus. This was corroborated by the Columbus Fire Department. The accident reportedly occurred in the middle of the morning and caused the bus to veer into some nearby pedestrians.

A witness reported that the pickup truck sped through a red light while it was missing its front passenger tire. The truck then reportedly hit the school bus, which was carrying three Groveport Madison schoolchildren. Fortunately, none of the children were hurt, but the force of the impact caused the bus to hit a pair of pedestrians at the corner of the intersection.

A female pedestrian died in the accident while a male pedestrian in critical condition was transported to a nearby hospital. Additionally, a female passenger in the pickup truck was reported to be in critical condition and required hospitalization. The male pickup truck driver was said to be in stable condition at another hospital. The bus driver was treated for minor injuries, and counselors were being made available to the children.

Many people are seriously injured or killed in car accidents every year. When a person dies as a result of a negligent driver's actions, the person's family may be able to seek recovery of damages from the driver through filing a wrongful death civil lawsuit against him or her. Families are sometimes left with staggering and unexpected expenses when a loved one is suddenly taken away. Through a wrongful death claim, the family may be able to receive compensation for the economic and noneconomic losses they suffered. Families might benefit from consulting with a personal injury attorney to identify all relevant claims, defendants and recoverable damages when filing a civil complaint.
