4-vehicle crash in Ohio kills 1 and injures 3

On Jan. 6 at approximately 5:24 p.m., a fatal crash involved three vehicles and a semi-truck in Canaan Township. The collisions occurred when a Subaru attempted to pass the semi-truck in a no-passing zone on Route 83 near Pleasant Home Road.

The Subaru driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle while attempting to pass the truck and hit the semi as a result. The Subaru driver then struck two oncoming cars, first a Chrysler and then a Chevrolet. The semi traveled off to the right side of the road and came to a stop, and its driver was taken to Lodi Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Chrysler driver was treated at the scene and released, but the Chevrolet driver died of injuries received in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Subaru driver was initially taken to Wooster Community Hospital and then transported via helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

At the time of reporting, State Highway Patrol officials did not yet know whether drugs or alcohol played a role in this accident. If investigation reveals that the Subaru driver was negligent in operation of the vehicle, the driver may face criminal charges. The negligent driver might be brought up on civil charges as well. The family of the decedent may decide to file a wrongful death suit in order to receive compensation to assist with both their emotion and financial losses. A financial award cannot take the place of a loved one, but is intended to help remaining family members take care of expenses related to the accident as well as to provide for dependents the victim may have been supporting.
