According to Ohio State Highway Patrol officers, two women were killed in an accident in Medina County on April 20. The accident happened just before 10:00 p.m. on State Route 83 at the highway’s intersection with West Smith Road.

Officers reported that an 84-year-old Wellington man was driving west on West Smith Road when he failed to stop at the road’s stop sign. After running it, he collided with a PT Cruiser that was traveling north on State Route 83. The two women who were killed were both in the PT Cruiser, including the 25-year-old driver and her 36-year-old passenger. They were both thrown from the vehicle in the collision. They were both transported by emergency medical personnel but later died at the hospital.

The 84-year-old man and his 80-year-old female passenger were both seriously injured in the accident. They were transported to Medina Hospital and then later transferred to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is still continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident. Additional agencies that were involved included Litchfield Fire and EMS and the Medina County Sheriff’s Office.

When people are killed in motor vehicle accidents caused by the negligent actions of another driver, the families of those killed may be left with substantial expenses and losses as well as the grief from their loved one’s death. A family may want to consider bringing a wrongful death action in civil court against the responsible driver. Through a lawsuit, the surviving family members may be able to recover damages that can include funeral and burial expenses as well as the costs of medical treatment incurred prior to their loved one’s death.
