Fatal car accident trends in Ohio

There are a number of different factors that can be associated with fatal car accidents that occur in Ohio. It is often difficult to know just how at risk drivers and passengers are when it comes to dangerous driving behavior.

The Auto Insurance Center, which provides information about car insurance, compiled data from all fatal car accidents that were recorded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration between 2009 and 2013. The results of its subsequent study showed that, in Ohio, these incidents often occurred due to the failure of staying in one lane. Throughout the nation, this was the most common cause of fatal car accidents during that period.

The study also looked at where drunk driving fatalities occurred most often on a per capita basis. It found that in many cases, the areas that had a high incidence of such accidents were largely rural ones where the availability of public transportation options for intoxicated drivers was limited. In a similar finding, the researchers noted that areas with sparse population had more speeding fatalities than states that had more drivers on the road.

Those who are involved in a car accident often incur serious injuries that result in significant medical expenses. Their financial situation can also be adversely affected if they are unable to return to work for prolonged periods while they are recovering. Many accidents are caused by an impaired, distracted or otherwise negligent driver. In such a situation, a victim may wish to speak with an attorney in order to determine how to obtain compensation for the damages that have been obtained. Evidence of driver negligence can often be derived from an examination of a police investigation report and used as the basis of a personal injury lawsuit filed against the responsible party.
