Police in Ohio may press charges against an 18-year-old woman in connection with a Feb. 26 accident that resulted in the deaths of two people. Investigators said that they believed that speed played a role in the single-car accident.

The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on Todd Road in Oxford Township. A 2013 Nissan carrying three people was traveling northeast in the 6300 block of Todd Road when it exited the roadway. As the car veered onto the shoulder, it overturned several times and struck a utility pole. The impact was so severe that the body of the car was split into two pieces.

The car’s two passengers, a 19-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man from West College Corner, Indiana, died at the scene of the accident. A coroner’s report listed their causes of death as multiple traumatic injuries. The 18-year-old woman was hospitalized at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Reports indicated that information about her condition was unavailable. The chief of the Oxford Township Police Department said that investigators planned to press charges against the 18-year-old woman. What specific charges were pending against the woman were not made clear at the time of the initial report.

Drivers who operate their cars at high speeds place everyone riding with them at great risk of serious injury or death. The families of victims who were riding with a negligent driver often have to cope with the emotional and financial damages that come with the sudden car accident deaths of their loved ones. Many consider filing wrongful death suits against negligent drivers in hopes of recovering compensation for the variety of expenses they may have incurred because of their losses.
