Woman injured in head-on collision; man charged

According to law enforcement authorities with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 68-year-old woman was seriously injured in a head-on accident, and a 23-year-old man is now facing criminal charges. Reportedly, the accident occurred on March 19 on State Route 83 and Ewing Road around 4:28 p.m.

Officers indicated that two motorists had called 911 to report a Ford Mustang being driven dangerously in the area. The accident happened while the dispatcher was reportedly taking information about the Mustang from one of the callers. The 23-year-old man was reportedly driving south on the highway when he allegedly crossed the center line and then struck the 68-year-old woman's Ford Fusion head-on.

Responding emergency personnel had to extricate the woman from her car. The 23-year-old man had exited his vehicle but did remain at the scene. He was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital for treatment of injuries that he sustained. The woman was first transported to Wooster Community Hospital and later to Akron General Medical Center. According to investigators, the 23-year-old man admitted to having used illegal drugs prior to the accident, but he reportedly refused to submit to toxicology testing. He is facing charges of reckless driving and driving while impaired. Troopers indicated he may face additional charges of vehicular assault as well.

When people are seriously injured in motor vehicle collisions caused by the negligence of other drivers, they may want to speak to an attorney to determine the remedies that may be available. Through the filing of a personal injury action, injured plaintiffs may then be able to recover damages that could include medical expenses as well as lost wages due to an inability to return to work for a prolonged period.
