Ohio crash kills one teen, injures another

One teenage boy was killed and another one was injured in an early morning crash in Lorain on July 13. The accident occurred at approximately 12:42 a.m. According to the Lorain Police Department, a 1999 Honda was headed north on Kansas Avenue when it lost control as it crossed the railroad tracks at a high rate of speed. The car veered off the right side of road and struck a utility pole before careening to the opposite side of the road and hitting a parked Ford Explorer. The car then struck a home on the 400 block of Kansas Avenue and burst into flames.

Bystanders pulled the car's occupants, two 17-year-old Lorain boys, from the burning wreckage. The driver suffered "incapacitating injuries" and was first taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center and then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The passenger suffered "very severe incapacitating injuries" and was also flown to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Kansas Avenue was shut down for around three hours as investigators examined the scene. Authorities said the house struck by the Honda sustained "substantial structural damage in the collision." Police said that drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the accident. No charges have yet been filed. The investigation remains open.

Auto accidents cause thousands of severe injuries and deaths each year. Any Ohio resident who has been injured or lost a loved in such an accident may benefit by consulting with an attorney. Legal counsel could use accident investigation results and other evidence to file a civil lawsuit against the responsible party seeking compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, pain and suffering and other damages.
