The benefits of Safe Driver Week

Ohio motorists might want to be aware that the Commercial Vehicle Safety Administration's annual Operation Safe Driver Week will start this year on October 16. During that week, law enforcement officials will be making an increased effort to track unsafe driver behavior with the goal of promoting traffic safety among passenger and commercial motorists. The agency also hopes that the seven-day event will result in fewer vehicle accidents, injuries and fatalities.

By using education and enforcement, law enforcement officials intend to combat danger on the roadways. Some of the unsafe driving behaviors that officials will be looking for include distracted driving, speeding, traffic law violations and motorists who are not wearing seat belts.

The event is significant because of the fact that unsafe driver behavior among passenger and commercial motor vehicles are the main cause of vehicle accidents. In fact, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, driver behavior is mainly to blame for more than 90 percent of passenger car accidents and 88 percent of large truck collisions. Along with support from various transportation and industry safety organizations, FMCSA will be collaborating with CVSA in carrying out the week-long event.

An individual who is severely hurt in a passenger car or truck accident because of another motorist's unsafe driving behavior might consider pursuing compensation for their accident-related losses. A lawyer who handles personal injury cases could help the victim through the process by analyzing the official accident report, witness accounts and road conditions for information that might point to the negligent party.
