Health concerns in Tesla factory

Tesla has set extremely ambitious production goals for its electric vehicles, and the company is under increasing pressure to meet them. This pressure has been transferred to workers at one of its factories. The situation developing at Tesla is a reminder to employees and employers in Ohio that ambitious business goals don't negate the need for proper workplace safety and support.

Many manufacturing settings face combustible dust risks

From plastic recyclers to mills, many types of manufacturing facilities in Ohio create dust during operations. Unfortunately, the build up of fine particles creates a fire risk. A 2012 report by the Combustible Dust Policy Institute showed that over 500 dust-related fires and explosions occurred across multiple industries in 2011. In addition, researchers suspect that employers fail to report many dust fires.

Riskiest jobs include poultry processing

Ohio workers who are curious about how the safety of their jobs ranks among others may be interested in a report from the National Employment Law Project. An evaluation of data from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration shows that based on reported severe injuries from January 2015 to September 2016, workers employed in the chicken and meat processing industry are at a high risk of incurring them.

OSHA campaign aims to promote worker safety

Ohio construction industry workers may be vulnerable to injuries or death because of falls. To raise awareness about this issue, OSHA started the National Safety Stand-Down Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction. In 2017, the National Fall Prevention Stand-Down takes place between May 8 and May 12. The goal is for employers to engage employees in dialogue regarding fall safety and take a look at their own fall protection systems.
